This September, the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority ('DMCC') will host the DMCC Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness Weekend as part of the basketball superstar's first trip to the region. The title sponsorship highlights DMCC's commitment towards promoting a healthier and more active UAE and follows its recent involvement with the Dubai Municipality 'You're Worth Your Weight in Gold' weight loss campaign.

To be held from 26-27 September 2013, the action-packed DMCC Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness Weekend will include a press conference at DMCC's headquarters in Almas Tower, the tallest commercial tower in the Middle East, a celebrity basketball game, a youth basketball clinic, and a slam dunk competition.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the DMCC Executive Chairman renowned for his passion for basketball, health and fitness, said:

"At DMCC, we strongly believe that a healthier lifestyle means a better quality of life. Our support of the DMCC Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness Weekend highlights our commitment towards promoting initiatives that encourage the UAE population to get fit, get active and stay healthy. The weekend will show our youth that fitness can be fun and interacting with one of the world's greatest basketball legends will inspire them to aim high and stay healthy."

Recent DMCC health initiatives include supporting the Dubai Municipality 'You're Worth Your Weight in Gold' campaign that rewarded UAE residents that lost weight during Ramadan with gold coins provided by DMCC. The winners of the competition will be announced in September.

DMCC's flagship tower, Almas Tower in the DMCC Free Zone, is also a key location for fitness enthusiasts across the UAE who test their strength and endurance by climbing the tower's 63 flights of stairs. The first person to use the stairs for training purposes was the DMCC Executive Chairman and last year, Javier Dominiguez climbed the tower regularly to train for his Mount Everest trek. Also in September 2013, UAE-based charity Gulf for Good will use the Almas Tower stairs as a training site for their upcoming challenges.

From Sunday 18 August 2013, more information and how to get involved with the DMCC Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness Weekend will be available on: www.kobefitnessuae.com
